Pros

State of the art new shiny head office, think ivory tower Ok benefits package

Cons

Be cautious of any company that endlessly and shamelessly self promotes itself as a really great place to work. Be sure to ask: How many times has Ritchie Bros. made a top employers list (BC or Canada)? The answer is ZERO! not once, not even close... and the long list of negative employer reviews here is just the tip of the iceberg as to why Ritchie Bros. will never be named as a top employer. That pretty much sums Ritchie Bros. as an employer up. The company had to hire a 'employer brand specialist' as a desperate attempt to increase Ritchie employer brand. Notice all the positive reviews since 2016? All new employees are almost forced to leave a positive review as part of their terms of employment It's a sad state of affairs at this company, interpersonal relationships are nasty Management is incompetent and ignorant, employees are treated as liabilities Watch out for the 'orange kool-aid' The culture at this company is toxic, most newer employees are literally barfing orange from have some lame older folk constantly ramming something that used to exist down their throats... Oh, and the dress code is super lame to...

Pros

RB has the best name in the auction industry. Exciting auction atmosphere. Team building when prepping for an auction. Free Company vehicle with credit card. Benefits were horrible.

Cons

Ludicrous budget plans pushed on to TM's: you must do "x amount of millions" or you get no bonus. This is insane. I turned a nothing territory into a 2 million plus territory in the 1st 14 months and I received nothing in return. Nothing! In many cases new TM's are taking over sales area's that have never been called on by RB and your expected to make miracles happen or else you are ridiculed and again...no raise and surely no bonuses. Never and I mean never obtain your job through "networking" i.e come in through the back door. This only leads to resentment by your DM because he is mad because he didn't make the hire. Last, but not least: the travel requirement. When I was hired I was told the travel requirement in my territory was 2-3 days and during auction times more. This was fine with me as I could handle a lot of my territory from my home. Over time, this "policy" changed. My DM wanted me to travel 5 days a week.....not what I was hired to do. My numbers were fine. New consignors all over the place and success stories everywhere, but he wanted me gone wasting company money, sitting in useless hotels for nothing. In a nutshell, he never wanted me and couldn't wait to see me gone.....Oh and guess what??? Since I have left (3) very interesting things have happened: (1) DM demoted. (2) Ops Manager demoted. (3) Magically they never backfilled my territory......If you wanted to downsize why didn't you just say it??? Why put people through such misery???? Future employees beware.

Pros

Great benefits and onsite daycare is practically unheard of elsewhere. Daycare is what makes most people stay longer than they would like to. People are also great and there's a chance at making life long friends here.

Cons

The culture was what I loved about working at RB and the people. However, during my time it has went from feeling like family to more cut throat. People without proper experience were being promoted and people started to leave en masse. The CEO has mentioned having a "Wall of Shame" to try and "encourage" sales people to do more. Not a culture I want to be in. There is very little room for moving up and the salary offered here is not competitive. A lot of people (including myself) have experienced quite a dramatic salary increase since leaving. Pay is also not equal compared to our US counterparts in the same positions.

Thank you for sharing your comments. We knew our merger and acquisition efforts over the last few years, welcoming hundreds of new RB teammates, would see our culture evolve. We put in place an Executive Culture Committee and we've been working strategically to ensure the best elements of our culture are supported while new elements can also flourish. For example, innovation is a key culture element of who we are today but requires us to think, act, promote and recognize differently. This is not something that will change overnight but an exciting journey and we strive to support every single employee along the way.
