Pros

Got to meet and work with some great people. Worked for this company for 25 years, 20 as a store manager. Had a great store team. If you have good district support, the job can be bearable. I was salaried, so I worked 50+ hours a week most of the time, but for a while it was pretty rewarding.

Cons

The last 4 years were disappointing to say the least. The collaborative culture that Mary Sammons promoted is long gone. I had a very profitable store with minimal employee turnover, but after the reorganization I got district management that was new to the company and suddenly everything I had been doing was wrong. They were the most unresponsive managers I have ever seen. Lots of luck getting an answer to anything, let alone any help. Response to even e-mails was about 5% of the time. At the same time, there is a lot of micromanagement and forced implementation of the "new idea" du jour (which are never thought thru and fall by the wayside). Associates can be fired for anything and everything EXCEPT incompetence. If someone is looking for part-time work during school or for a little extra cash, if one is near you and you happen on a store with good management, it would probably be okay. Otherwise I'd advise looking elsewhere.

Pros

Promitions generally are within the company, work-load is manageable, friendly associates/upper management, easy to relocate, phramacy employees treated best, management will work with you and generally are easy with absences or being late for work (as long as you call), and overall good managers.

Cons

There are a couple different things wrong with this company. One would have to be no time for family or any sort of social life. Management usually has a guidelines for making weekend work everyother weekend, but they are rarely followed. They also tend to make the same people work every weekend which is unfair to certain employees. No, personal paid time. Benefits are not so good. Another things is low pay, for certain positions but there sometimes is another problem with pay. If their is a holiday where the bank is closed expect your check to come in a day late. If you get a raise expect to wait four weeks to see the pay increase. Maximum of a 3% percent raise increase per year (standard for most companies today). They claim they want to pay you but do everything in their power to delay the process.

Pros

If you are able and willing and you work hard you will get promoted. Having open availability helps a lot. Sometimes it's fun they really don't care if you're traditionally too young to be the boss I can't drink legally and yet I'm an ASM.

Cons

I work 11 days for every 2 weeks 8+ hours a day overnights closings followed by opening the next day every holiday except Christmas. I'm on call 24/7. You can choose 2 of 3 work, sleep, or social life. The pay is crap. They stores are not allotted enough hours to get everything that needs to be done done. Customers are terrible I've been punched, I've been yelled at because apparently there's no way to take 30 pills before they expire in a year and a half and therefore I should give them a discount. You can't do much anything to stop thieves accept pull low quality images from cameras and write down license plate numbers. If a thief steals something and you accuse them of stealing and can't prove it they can fire you. If you are tricked by scammers that the entire region is aware of and having trouble dealing with and catching you will be fired.
