Pros

- There's constant work which keeps you busy. - There's a lot of opportunity to learn and pick up new experiences. - There's some effort to fix the obvious gender imbalance in the workplace. - The product is as exciting as it can get. - Most people are hard working and put in a great effort. - The company is expanding, which means there's a lot of opportunity to take hold of.

Cons

- Systemic discrimination has developed during the hiring process which is enabled by the inconsistent application of the ITAR policy. - No WFH, the 1 day a week we had has recently been removed. - There is a lack of understanding of certain areas of the business from management. This results in under-resourcing, unrealistic expectations, and a general feeling of under appreciation for what we achieve regardless. - There is an expectation of being on-call and being able to perform a call-out with no contractual compensation. Any time in lieu is at the whim of your manager and is not formally recorded. - Pay inequity has been observed between employees with the same skills, responsibilities, and roles. - There's a clear diversity imbalance in various forms (not just gender). - The pay is not keeping up with the market expectations for new roles which makes it hard to hire in a competitive market. - The company is expanding, which also means there's a lot of growing pains. - There is a toxic culture brewing.

Exciting workplace, but very poor culture and compensation

Pros

If you've made it to Rocket Lab, at least you can say you're at the top of your game. I was fortunate to have a lot of flexibility in my role, which allowed me to work on lots of interesting and complex projects. Some employees are rewarded with company shares - although these are spanned over X number of years. They offer free barista coffee for those who drink it.

Cons

Pay/compensation is poor in comparison to other companies in NZ - especially more so with no work/life balance and a strong expectation of overtime. I was told by my manager that I had to do overtime if I wanted a promotion - this was regardless of the quality of my output. Not everyone gets treated fairly by people and culture and some managers, as employees are compensated based on favouritism, rather than performance. There are some questionable promotions. People and Culture are unprofessional and do not offer support for ordinary employees, as they do not action any problems you have with your direct manager. Their loyalty lies with upper management. They also ignore any conflicts of interest that are addressed. There is a huge lack of direction from upper management with no cohesion between teams of the business.
