Pros

Medium-sized company that is growing. Many highly skilled and knowledgeable employees willing to share that knowledge. Excellent health benefits.

Cons

Formerly nimble, flat structure now adding more and more layers of management. Non-technical people now control much of the company. Rarely promote from within. Culture of secrecy about future plans. Successful company not willing to spread the wealth. Some employees thrive, while others go for years without raises.

Pros

Great, smart, educated people with whom you really want to work, who are ready to discuss, support and help you.

Cons

Very soon you will be stuck with your salary and title. It is not impossible to grow further, but you really need to be luck, working hard and show yourself at the right place at the right time (the luck is the most important thing here). This is a company of "wheel inventors", instead of using already tested, reliable solutions and frameworks, which can be de facto standard for industry, everything must be implemented from the scratch. It can be good at the begging to understand how it works for junior developers, but it is definitely not reducing the cost of development and further maintenance. People treated as resource, not as human. But it is only for high level management, which is always telling that we are the one big family, but nobody actually care about your family, your personal life and your personal opinion.

Great people, but who's in charge?

Pros

The best thing about working at Rocket is the quality of your peers... smart people in every position. There is a lot of opportunity to do amazing work, as long as you are self-directed and can figure it out on your own. If you can manage your own workload, and find time to do other cool stuff, there is an opportunity to create and grow. If you need direction, this might not be the place for you. Excellent enticements to join, including 100% paid health insurance, generous vacation and time off policies, and matching 401K.

Cons

Exciting place to be, when you first join. After the initial honeymoon phase, the recognition and visibility just goes POOF. No one seems to be helping employees develop a career path, and it's easy to get overlooked. Raises? Don't hold your breath. Three HR plans in three years... where are we going, Rocket? Help us out here. Rocket attracts good talent, but does not work hard enough to retain the same employees. Professional development budgets are zero or very small, and conferences and training are handed out on a "it's who you know" basis. Management changes are like a revolving door at Rocket. Culture is still being defined, rapid growth is not handled well.
