Pros

Comfortable work environment - good coworkers

Cons

Terrible Management - completely out of touch with reality. Rockwell management lives in an ivory tower. They believe they can make decisions on subjects they know nothing about. They dont seem to realize that any companies most important asset is its people. They will pay outside agencies for advice instead of consulting the people who know answers the best - their own workers. They would fill positions with people who are completely unqualified for the job just so they can pay them less. They would hire contractors to fill positions that are long term and then turn them over every year - throwing all the training and experience away just to have to start all over again

Pros

Here in Cambridge ON RA manufactures MV drives and starters which is very interesting products. There is tons of work since they are selling like crazy. There is lots of hands-on work and possibility to get exposed to real work even as a young engineer. There is quite a lot of people that spent their whole career there.

Cons

Horrible pay that reflect local conditions and doesn’t take into consideration bigger cities that area around. Lately there is more of an American approach in firing people with higher salaries, some very valuable people were let go just because of the money they were making. There is a lot of talk about shifting production to Mexico, China and Poland. Long term production might be severely downsized. Long term they will probably be specialty drive manufacturer and support centre. Stupid evaluation system that bonuses are based on put a lot of stress on employees.

Pros

Compensation is number one. Comparatively for the northwest region of the US it pays very well. I have very good supervisors who are competent and pay attention to the needs of their employees. For the most part my supervisors do a good job of communicating the objectives of the business unit I work in, so you have a clear understanding of what must be done to achieve the goals of the unit. Rockwell is doing very well at transitioning to a process controls company and are seeing positive growth in this area. As an employee I believe they could do more to involve us in the process initiative in terms of training and equipment.

Cons

If you a valuable asset to a particular group they make it very hard to leave to another position within the company. With the process push most employees, in tech support, have been left in the dark and supervisors will not purchase necessary equipment to learn the additional protocols such as field bus, modbus or anything outside of our own. I see an ever expanding number of jobs being transitioned to foreign countries and it is making life as a support engineer very difficult. Answers that use to take one day to receive are now taking 3. The language barier is very apparent. Customer satisfaction is for sure taking a hit.
