Pros

GYCDL program prepared me to be a very safe, compliant driver. The equipment is safe and always being maintained. Any concerns you have are always addressed and they get to know you as a person. Roehl will always be appreciated.

Cons

The pay and lack of home time. I figured if I stayed out more, I’d get more miles. That was not the case. I sat a lot and my fleet manager wasn’t the best when it came to assisting with route information or ensuring I was rolling.

Pros

very large company, with a corporate kind of structure but yet manages to keep a small family company vibe overall. nice terminals, very well maintained equipment. fleet management is hit or miss, in my experience its more good than bad but I've definitely had some bad experiences. great place to start and get your license if you don't already have it.

Cons

at the end of the day you're expected to give 100% of your time and effort to the job for low pay, If you completed the GYCDL course; the obligatory contract that can take anywhere from 1.5-2 years unpredictable schedules

Thank you for your feedback. As you probably know, driver pay can vary depending on the fleet and division someone is in, the amount of home time a person takes and even where someone lives. We encourage you to work with your fleet manager to develop a plan for your success – we want you to be successful on TeamRoehl!

Pros

The GYCDL program is very thorough. Trucks are well maintained. Terminals are fairly nice.

Cons

They put you up in a hotel during the program but you will share a room with a stranger. After that I moved on to Phase 2. I had to wait at home for 3 weeks before I was assigned to a trainer, and then I was living in a truck sleeping on the upper bunk which is cramped. I had to keep all my belongings up there. I worked constantly during phase 2, only getting a break when I was sleeping or if my trainer got home time. In my case that meant I was put in a hotel room for 3 days. Complete that and I was assigned a truck and started Phase 3, where I was on my own supervised by a fleet manager. I didn't get many miles once I was on my own. The pay is too low for all the responsibility of driving a semi truck. If I could do it all over I would not come to Roehl.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We're glad to hear you found the GYCDL program thorough. In our program, you were paid while you got your CDL, and you had your lodging and most meals covered. After getting your CDL, you went out with a certified driver trainer who shared his or her truck with you. Once you completed Phase 2, you had your own truck and your own fleet manager. When a new driver is just starting out, they can take time to build up the stamina and skills to drive many miles. If you have not already done so, please work with your fleet manager to develop a plan for your success. Roehl is built on values – including Delivering Success, and we want you to be successful!
