Pros

- Good people (colleagues) willing to help - Interesting work - Lots of social opportunities: apprentice/graduate association, Language Cafe to learn new languages and cultures together, sports clubs, ... - Good benefits e.g. flexible working, flexible start and end times, cycle to work scheme, EAP, onsite gym, etc. - Good salary - Good training and development, many courses to do - Good on-the-job learning, built up in steps - Good at diversity and inclusion - Lots of employee networks to support improvements in diversity and inclusion - Can be technically promoted in role to up salary and responsibility (but see cons)

Cons

- Getting technically promoted in role for engineers is a lot of work (would be easier to shift job and jump into management) - Often stressful, a lot of pressure from seniors - Some bad culture higher up, with old outdated beliefs, such as you should be working a certain number of days in the office - Painful IT issues, slow to update kit - Lots of corporate BS and buzzwords - Many meetings which waste your time - Unethical products, i.e. submarines and across the defence sector - Unsustainable business / products bad for the climate, which they are making noise about changing but there are elements of performative action rather than real action - Managers who get promoted into those roles without support, training or experience to help them succeed - I burnt out some years ago due to the pressure and stress, which they failed to grasp why / the gravity of it - Lots of bureaucracy - Everything takes ages to complete/implement
