Great philosophy, poor execution

Pros

Exceptional corporate office support/resources. Mission, Vision, Values based company. Ability to offer some really unique solutions which is rare in the industry.

Cons

Top level CORPORATE leadership has a clear vision for the company and communicates it effectively. However, middle management (EVP, RVP) in some regions seems to be stagnant and while they offer lip service, there is very little support for branch level staff. EVP level management team is not readily available but has to approve all pricing that is outside of the “pricing box” and asking a client to wait a day or 2 for your boss to get back to you is crazy and uncompetitive. Additionally in some markets this middle management team has a habit of sending everyone on a wild goose chase to accomplish something only to change their minds and not communicate….VERY DIFFICULT ENVIRONMENT. Sometimes expected activity gets in the way of achieving results and putting the customer first (despite the mission, vision, values which ask you to do so). The message of the company is to hit "PAR" (sales activity) first and then recruit on openings. As a sales manager, I understand the philosophy and the need to meet sales expectations, but I struggled constantly telling customers that we didn't have anyone yet having to turn around and focus on generating more business instead of taking care of what we had. It is a very fine balance, but there needs to be some balance. The company supposedly promotes work/life balance. They offer 9/80 schedule for hourly associates and restrict OT at all costs. This may be a perk to hourly associates, but it means the Branch Manager has to pick up the excess while still being managed to all of the same activity expectations of everyone that works for them. More troubling is that for management level employees who are exempt they are managed as though they are hourly requiring "butt in seat at 8am and 5pm daily” and "don't leave the office except for scheduled appointments.” Lack of trust in your management team to make the right decisions creates lack of trust from your management team.

Pros

Only Pro working for this company was the 7 people that I worked with in the small office we were in. Not including my manager

Cons

This place is a complete skam with everything they say. Do not let their posts of how amazing they are fool you because they fooled me. The 9-80 flex schedule is a complete lie they do not offer that to all employees only managers and corporate office get all the privileges not one else. The work/life balance is another skam they do NOT give work life balance they run you out to dry and yell at you if you come in 5 minutes after 8. They do not allow you to start at 830 some days and leave at 530 they force you to take lunch at 12 and be back no later than 1 or u will get reemed out in a email, its like being in school and the manager of the boston office is a micromanager and complete socio path dont let her manipulate you thinking it will be so great working for her. The compensation is the worst u will see you will NOT MAKE MONEY, you are underpaid i quit and took a job that im making double what they were paying me and when they say you make it up in commission thats a lie, you make nothing in bonus. The amount of money you make the company is disgraceful compared to what they give you for closing a deal. The culture and mission vission values is another laugh, since no one in the company follows it. I took a job here and was so manipulated into thinking it would be a good culture fit for me and I was the most miserable i have ever been at a job in my life, Dont let them fool you.

Although we’re glad to hear you enjoyed working with your coworkers (which is typically something we hear from coworkers throughout the Roth Staffing organization – we work hard to hire great people), we are unhappy to hear that you did not have a good relationship with your manager. It’s a known fact in any workplace that not having a good experience with the direct manager/supervisor is the number one reason people leave. You have our commitment to look into the concerns you’ve raised. Your review also allows us the opportunity to address our very competitive compensation program and also clearly explain what our 9/80 Flex Schedule is and address some of the misconceptions you might have had. Regarding the 9/80 - we operate in the staffing industry which is notorious for companies that work their employees tirelessly expecting 50 to 60 hour workweeks (100 or more hours bi-weekly). We wanted to be different and stand out as the very best staffing firm to work for. The 9/80 schedule means you work 80 hours over the course of 9 days (Mon-Fri and then Mon-Thurs) instead of 10 days. You get the 10th day off (every other Friday) – that’s 26 three-day weekends. The “Flex” schedule does not mean that coworkers can arrive or leave in a flexible manner and choose their start or ending time; it means that our coworkers on the 9/80 have an extra 26 Fridays off a year. Because we serve business clients who start work at 8 a.m. and we have candidates who start work assignments at 8 a.m., we must have our offices open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with start times for our coworkers either at 8 am or 8:30 am to ensure our branches are open to serve our clients and Ambassadors. If you arrived 5 minutes late one time and received a verbal warning, we agree that is not something we would expect our managers to do. If you are frequently a few minutes late in the morning, we would hope your manager would have a professional dialogue with you about how much our candidates and clients depend on you to have our office fully operational by 8 a.m. You mention that our managers and corporate are the only ones who have the perks, and yet one of the biggest requests we get from managers and corporate is “can’t we have the 9/80 schedule, too?” Our managers are not eligible and so we provide a different program called RAD Days (Rest And Decompression Days) where they receive a few extra days off such as their birthday. And in corporate we allow coworkers to leave at 3 p.m. on Fridays in the summer months to make up for no 9/80 schedule. The opposite is actually true regarding your statement about the flexibility perks, only the coworkers in our Business Solutions Manager (BSM) and Business Solutions Specialist (BSS) positions in our branch offices are eligible for the 9/80. Let’s take a look at compensation quickly – we have a team that studies compensation very carefully to ensure that we offer the most competitive pay in the industry. With our bonus program, successful coworkers are handsomely rewarded for both their recruiting and business development successes – and they get to do both aspects of the job. We’re disappointed to hear that you felt unsupported by senior management. Our market, regional, and VP leaders consistently receive high praise from coworkers. We appreciate you taking the time to communicate your concerns so that we can look further into this.

Marginal experience, I wouldn't return

Pros

Successful and growing company. Decent benefits and work schedule. Rewarding for top producers.

Cons

Favoritism is prevalent throughout the company. A lot of pressure. High stress. Very political environment. Corporate is disconnected with branch operations. Poor management depending on the branch. Statement of company values, purpose and promise are just statements and selling points, hardly see it lived out in the day to day when money is on the line.

We appreciate your feedback and are disheartened to hear that your personal experience was "marginal." The overwhelming majority of coworkers provide feedback saying the core values are alive and well, and that the culture brings out the very best in them. We want your experience, and the experience of every coworker, to be one that where the Purpose, Promise and Values are alive in every situation. We listen carefully to every response our coworkers provide and will continue to find branch offices where the culture can be made better. We fully depend on existing, or former coworkers like you, to let us know when there is a void. Please consider contacting our HR department or your former Senior Vice President to let us know where we can focus our efforts.
