Pros
You make great relationships with underwriters and retailers that will be long-term if you have the right mentality and do good work for them. There are some great team members here as well that I will greatly miss working with
Cons
In insurance, there is a culture of “paying your dues”, where when you start out you are paid less than what you deserve, for the work you are doing. I felt this keenly at my time with RT. There is also very much a gender pay gap here. I recently learned that a woman coworker, who is also an AE, who has significantly more experience than I do, has been paid less than me throughout my tenure. This is very upsetting to me for a number of reasons and hope that corporate management takes this issue seriously and makes real strides to address the gender pay gap here. The other main issue is the “old boys club” culture… I have been in a number of situations where I have heard senior brokers make statements that can be interpreted as racist and sexist to say the least, and completely inappropriate regardless of interpretation. These instances have taken place in my office and at events in which we were representing RT as a company. Without getting into specific details, I do NOT think that RT takes diversity seriously and would NOT recommend this company to a person of color.
