Pros

Safety is a major focus with Ryder. It can be a double edged sword but more on that in the cons. The benefits get the job done and the pay is generally good. Management has been a strong point in the past and they do promote from within. Work life balance is there and the work is generally approachable by most.

Cons

Safety has gotten so intense and I assume it’s gotten this way with all major logistics companies to where you basically need to be a robot and not make mistakes now a days. I’m waiting for there to be a camera pointed at the steering wheel. No privacy and they keep the leash really tight. If you have a habit of being on your phone don’t bother working here. You’ll get fired. I get that it’s not a good idea but sometimes you need gps to get around or want to put on a pod cast or something else and well unless you pull over every time for those urges you’ll get fired if you touch your phone more than once while the vehicle is in motion whether it be 1 mph or 70. No cars on the road or bumper to bumper traffic all the same. I feel like the people that put these policies in place need to walk a mile in our shoes. The other thing that’s annoying is Ryder is a carrier. Contract based. If you get on a good account they pay x amount then that amount needs to fit your needs and be able to sustain your financial demands for years on end because you’re locked in at the agreed upon wage per contract. Also there are times when accounts are lost. In which case there’s likely not going to be any severance pay waiting for you at the end. As long as your ok with that then have at it.

Pros

Short route lengths, direct drops.

Cons

High pressure position where driver is put in the middle between 2 different, fast paced assembly lines. Problems or delays on either line presents direct pressure and stress on the shuttle driver. Long eleven hour days with low hourly wage, no set breaks or lunch. Unsafe fork lift operation in supply plant increases risk at dock. If Toyota line is down or not working, you are out of work too for that day. Tight, high traffic yard and dock area increasing risk for accidents.
