Pros
- Company is making many overdue changes and that will lead some to feel less engaged at work, but there will always be coworkers who will be there to support you and help you when you want to open up and ask questions. Felt very reassured, encouraged, and supported here. - Great exposure to different projects. I gained so much knowledge from working on these projects, working around this group, and was provided so many experiences to engage and network with clients, architects, other designers, suppliers, and contractors. - Honesty and trust in PMs. - Best group of people to work with. They are dedicated, loyal, fun, and friendly. They have young professional groups, community engagement, mentors, outreach programs, outdoor enthusiasts, and lunch and learn training. They will help provide dependent funding for your future. - Boss has your career path in mind. If it's unclear what you want, there's opportunity to transfer to other business units to learn about other fields. - Site visits and construction work opportunities. - Semi-standardized design procedures (mainly follow local jurisdiction and client request) but it still feels like the wild west so be ready to ask questions with colleagues and PMs to gain an understanding of the company's process. - Independence of working alone. Office-work business units are flexible with scheduling work from home and with emergencies or overworking. Field crew is not as lucky and are pushed to work long hours in field, but PMs don't expect you to kill yourself over these projects. Work is fulfilling in the field if you have a passionate mindset with the work you put in. - Employee owned so people are driven to work hard here. - Emphasis in quality of work but more so submitting the documents on time. Dependent on PM and client, and communicating workload expectancy.
Cons
- High stress in any industry but deadlines crunches and burnout were a thing here (trauma bonding is a thing here). - Terrible time constraints. - Understaffed and overworked. - Salary pay is below market average. * These are noted by multiple young professionals working at this company in other business units.
