      Pros

      Employee-owned - profits aren't kept by a core group or single owner, but shared with employees through the ESOP program; leadership cares about its employees prospering because it is what drives an employee-owned company. Safety and quality focused - S&ME at its core is about doing the right thing and doing things right; Short cutting is not encourages since it hurts relationships within and with clients, which is detrimental to success.

      Cons

      Still learning a relatively new organizational structure and how to effectively communicate and share resources across business units.

      Excited about the Future

      Pros

      This is a place where people want you to be successful. I have had the opportunity to take on new projects, additional responsibilities and grow. No place is perfect and there are frustrations, but I feel like the current leadership is actually interested in hearing what the employees have to say.

      Cons

      There are opportunities to improve communication and consistency across the company. Our industry as a whole is conservative and at times lags in terms of benefits, flexibility, and progressive policies but I am optimistic that will evolve and change.

      Challenging, rewarding, and fun!

      Pros

      I began working with S&ME 19 years ago. What a wonderful ride it has been! I have been challenged with multiple roles during that time (project professional, project engineer, Group Leader, Project Manager, and now Area Manager). I've experienced lots of field work, made some wonderful friendships, and developed some great client relationships. It is wonderful to wake up each morning excited to start work and make an impact in my profession. S&ME is a great company, and I'm very thankful for the opportunity to learn and grow as an employee-owner in the firm.

      Cons

      There may be some occasional cons, but the folks at S&ME care about making this a great place to work, and we do our best to improve things when it is needed.
