Pros

I appreciated this opportunity. I needed experience tutoring high school students in math. The students are great and the management is supportive. I have received many job interviews, and employers were impressed with my commitment to service. It will be wonderful to earn my Master's degree now and to become a successful middle and high school math teacher!

Cons

The hours are long. There is a lot of preparation that is needed to tutor each lesson. Each tutor should be assigned to a mentor. Perhaps, Saga should hire math teachers as mentors.

Pros

Everyone is so kind here at Saga. It is very easy to connect with any department, regardless of whether you are junior or senior level. They really emphasize the importance of respecting each other’s backgrounds and making sure you have the resources to succeed. You can tell they really do want you to grow and thrive, and will help as best they can. Also very DIVERSE, which is amazing (shoutout to our DEIB team!).

Cons

Pay is slightly lower than industry rate for some Staff roles. I’m in a place right now where I’m prioritizing a healthy and supportive work environment, so I will be continuing to grow my skills here and gain knowledge. I know Math Fellows don’t get paid as much but that is because their stipend amount is decided by AmeriCorps at the end of the day.

Hearing about the positive aspects, especially the kindness, inclusivity, and emphasis on personal growth is heartening. We are proud of our diverse community and the efforts of our DEIB team! We appreciate your feedback on compensation. Saga bases salaries on the non-profit industry. We evaluate our compensation every three years, and annually, we conduct a cost of living analysis to ensure our salary structure remains competitive. Thank you for being a part of Saga and sharing your insights.

Thank you for your feedback. It's great to hear that you enjoy your students and coworkers. While we understand the stipend instead of wages may be modest, Saga also pays 100% of benefits- medical, dental, & vision, for our tutors, and there's also a Segal Ed Award given to those who are eligible. Saga appreciates your service to our students and the program, thank you!
