Was Once Great

Pros

Was for MANY years employee owned, growing, dynamic, lots of room to change roles and be promoted. Use to SAIC University, with lots of training options, offered great benefits, including good matching 401K. Salaries competitive. Most importantly, there have always been many smart, motivated, terrific people to work alongside! This was a GREAT place to work.

Cons

Gradual slide since ousting founder, IPO not a success, poor succession planning, now the split to two companies and huge layoffs. Corp consolidation resulting in losing amazing employee resources, plus many others jumping off. Constant cost cutting also lead to terrible benefits changes - health insurance is now a CDHP.

Pros

Lots of diversity of the work; global opportunities; many subject matter experts; good salary, good benefits (before 2013 anyway).

Cons

Grew too big too fast. Now splitting, divesting, lots of layoffs in the restructuring. Upper management has lost sight of base customer expectations. Past ethics issue with a small yet highly visible group has resulted in overboard bureaucracy across the company making project execution difficult and more costly. Too many service centers that force direct personnel to do too much indirect work. Reputation with customers of being too expensive.

Pros

- I have a job and bring home a paycheck. - Fun people to work with

Cons

- Don't know who my manager is - Training/Career development is non-existent -- Don't feel secure about future employment since skills are getting rusty - Hard to stay motivated when company doesn't have any expectations for performance other than a body filling a slot that they can bill for
