Pros

SAIC provides excellent compensation and benefits package. They really know how to take care of their employees. They provide tuition reimbursement, auto insurance discounts, and are even trying out a new student loan repayment service. They also provide you with training if you actively seek it. While the pay is great, you're also able to work on cutting edge technology projects. The environment in my current office is very laid back though everyone is very knowledgeable about their respective subjects. People at SAIC seem to be very devoted to getting the job done. It may just be the team I work with, but there is a common sense of devotion to the project.

Cons

There is plenty of red tape in this organization. Though this seems to be the case in many government contracting businesses, it seems to be more prevalent in this organization. It seems as though administrative tasks that should take a day end up taking a week, two, or three. There are also countless meetings and teleconferences that don't provide any real value. The organization seems to promote a conservative undertone, which may not be the best place for a young progressive to start their career. It seems to take an act of God to get money approved for new contracts.

Pros

Wide variety of opportunities in many different career fields. Ease of internal transfer to a different job.

Cons

Absolute WORST pay among the major defense contracts. No thought given to non-managerial career paths.

Pros

They're very competitive salary-wise. They have a large number of contracts, so easier to switch positions while staying with company than it is with many competitors.

Cons

It's a huge corporation, with a huge lumbering bureaucracy. There are limited opportunities to move into management. While one can switch positions within the company, don't expect any help finding them. I would say SAIC is as good as the position in which you are currently working. Don't expect them to be able to give you progressively more challenging/engaging work, or to be able to find work that you are necessarily interested in. This, of course, is true of the industry in general.
