Pros
* Good pay, depending on location. Negotiate up as much as you can early. * Diverse co-worker culture, though highly depends on where you're placed so your mileage will vary. * Clients are nearly all government space, and has been extremely satisfying when you know you're effecting change. * Near complete autonomy * Picky about expertise and experience record, do not abide by low performers. * Amazing benefits, particularly pto (they want you to burn it all, unlimited carryover (probably why they want you to use it up) and difficult to beat their health benefits. * WLB extraordinaire. * The work itself can be highly satisfying, again depending one the direct client.
Cons
* Nearly no opportunity for advancement. You're a premium consultant, likely compensated well. If that's your bag, you will happily enjoy the ride as long as want. * Little direct leadership, oversight, and direction; though primarily because they assume your a high-performing, self-starting consultant. * Not a place for middle-of-career of even junior ICs. * The hiring process and vetting can be lax and not particularly comprehensive. Thus they may just find the bodies, and if they wind up low performing it'll be obvious.. and you guess the rest. * Pay increases and upward movement proportionally out of whack; thus negotiate aggressively prior to hire.
