Changes needed to keep up

Pros

Great people (in my division), good benefits (though not as competitive as they think), beautiful campus, decent work-life balance.

Cons

little/no opportunity for advancement. Competitors seem to be gaining and growing at a much faster rate. Company insists on using in-house, archaic software (at the expense of time and resources) instead of paying for mature, much more capable and efficient systems on the market. Budget rationale is a bit messed up (i.e. can't purchase tools we need to do our jobs, but we can hire interns and spend in other areas where it isn't needed). Sometimes we get quite mixed messages from management b/c they are trying to balance the mixed messages they are getting from higher up. Things take FOREVER.

Pros

Great benefits with hair salon, gym, SAS Family Day

Cons

Pay is too low considering education, experience and compared to other tech companies in RTP. Benefits are weighed heavily into overall compensation. Can't send my kids to college on benefits.

Over achievers- run away

Pros

Beautiful campus. Delicious food with a wide range of options. Easy 35 hour work week, no pressure to work more. People are very friendly. Huge array of amenities (gym, salon, fitness classes, running trails)

Cons

You will not be challenged at this company. If you are looking for a job where you keep your head down, perform the bare minimum of your job requirement, and just have to play politics to stay where you are, SAS is for you. Pay is well below industry average. Benefits (that are supposed to compensate for lower pay) are industry standard. Most benefits are only helpful for those with children/families. All in all, if you are looking for an easy, cushy job with okay pay where you will never be forced out, come work for SAS for the rest of your life like everyone else here. If you are looking for a dynamic, challenging environment where you learn and have lots of opportunity for growth and upward mobility, stay far far away.
