The dark side of SAS

Pros

Private offices and a beautiful aesthetically pleasing campus.

Cons

There are two worlds at SAS. The dark world of SSOD (SAS Solution on Demand) and the rest of SAS. SSOD division has no work/life balance unlike whats mentioned about SAS all over the media. Your work bleeds into your nights, weekends, holidays and even your sleeping hours. They basically feel like they own your life and you are at their beck and call. SSOD is a high stress, fire fighting environment and a terrible place for a decent family life. They expect work to come before family and personal life. The rest of SAS (I hear, because I have never experienced it) is supposed to have a wonderful work/life balance like so many other reviews say. But for those of you considering SSOD, beware!

Not what it used to be

Pros

Nice campus. Some departments still have a 35-hour work week. Some of the on-campus perks and services are nice.

Cons

The "best place to work" stuff has become more spin than anything. Terrible, short-sighted management. The company has started adopting some of the worst trends in management and HR policies. It's ugly. SSOD is especially bad.

Pros

Gym, pool, cafeteria (partially subsidized), and benefits are all very good. Nice company owned hotel on beautifully manicured campus maintained at a very high level.

Cons

Do not believe what you hear about how great this place is to work if you are in sales. Its great if you are in HR, Accounting, etc. but sales does not run like a normal organization because they are privately held and are completely inbred. Sales morale is decreasing beginning with the inside sales group who was recently kicked off campus. They are in a decreasing revenue mode and also are in the process of releasing a new architecture for the platform which means they have to support 2 tool frameworks which is very difficult to articulate. Customers will be reluctant to adopt this which will cause a continued spiraling shrinkage of the company.
