SAS the Pro and the Con

Pros

Work Life balance is exactly as advertised. Great amenities and lots of extra things to do with family. If your a coder this is great company.

Cons

Lots of politics that rule how company runs. Pay for most is about 50-75% of market due to the "benefits". Sales has very high turnover and products are no longer the juggernauts they once were. Lots of competitors that frankly can do it better, faster, cheaper. The internal culture is not the same as seen from outside.

Changes needed to keep up

Pros

Great people (in my division), good benefits (though not as competitive as they think), beautiful campus, decent work-life balance.

Cons

little/no opportunity for advancement. Competitors seem to be gaining and growing at a much faster rate. Company insists on using in-house, archaic software (at the expense of time and resources) instead of paying for mature, much more capable and efficient systems on the market. Budget rationale is a bit messed up (i.e. can't purchase tools we need to do our jobs, but we can hire interns and spend in other areas where it isn't needed). Sometimes we get quite mixed messages from management b/c they are trying to balance the mixed messages they are getting from higher up. Things take FOREVER.

It's just OK

Pros

Beautiful campus, great co-workers, tons of resources, benefits are good (I wouldn't say they are great)

Cons

Every organization has its warts and SAS is no exception. I feel SAS's heyday was 10-20 years ago. Very little movement in new sales solutions to customers. Most people make their number by compliance or contract renegotiations. To even get resources for sales opportunities now, AEs must fill out a mound of paperwork. Mgmt is trying to get a better hold of the sales process BECAUSE of the lack of new sales and dwindling renewals.
