Pros

They really allow for flexibility when you need it, including sick leave for doctor's appointments and telework to facilitate changing schedules.

Cons

Many layers of review, which leads to many re-writes.

Pros

The salary is fantastic for a 9-5 role. As an economist, if you are part of a rule, the work isn't high-level. A lot of politics that can somewhat be navigated - hit or miss.

Cons

During the interview/fly-out, they advertised 30% research time, 70% policy work. However, this was very misleading as internally, it is only 10-15% research time and the rest policy. Lots and lots of meetings with the attorneys if you are part of a rule - not very efficient. The RAs at the SEC are not of the same level as those in the Fed banks. Very hard to freely publish. It is hard to generate wealth because of the many restrictions on trading - which is understandable given the role and insider information one may have access to.
