Making a Difference Means Working for SEO

Pros

The staff is extremely supportive, fun, and exciting. Everyone is open to new ideas that would better the environment for the students and the organization as a whole. No idea is shot down, but closely examined and given its support. Everyone pitches in and helps one another because they truly believe in the mission of the program.

Cons

Work/life balance can be hard, but it is not a huge con that would deter anyone from working at SEO.

Pros

Opportunities to connect with passionate colleagues who drive the organization forward, providing life-changing opportunities for students. SEO also offers flexible work schedules, weekly bagel days, and occasional team outings.

Cons

People in leadership roles often refuse to take accountability for poor leadership skills. The organization possesses inadequate work structures, overwhelmed and understaffed support teams, and favoritism runs rampant. Staff must be willing to become their manager's pet and enable incompetent leadership, all while being underpaid and overworked.

Pros

Good technology, individual teams are tight and strong, relatively well-resourced for a nonprofit. Strong benefits and PTO, with consistent (although small) salary increases

Cons

The organization doesn't really know what direction it's going in, and that's becoming more apparent post the Supreme Court affirmative action case. Organizational development needs tightening - there's no strategic plan (that I know of), no intranet, sporadic all-hands. Each individual team does good work, but at the moment the org has difficulty "rowing together".
