Pros

There is a learning curve to the equipment and the SOPAS software, but once you learn that and learn some tricks, the job is not that difficult. A lot of the installation is “idiot proof” so you can’t really screw it up. Camera tunnels suck, but other than that it is a really fun job and there is generally something new each week. Travel is between 85-90 percent, but weekends and holidays are optional(at least when I worked there), although it is highly recommended to work at least one weekend a month. Most times, you will leave on Monday, be at a site for the week and return on Friday. There is a good bit of variation as well so it isn’t monotonous. Field Service Management is really good, all the immediate supervisors are knowledgeable, helpful, and generally laid back as long as you do what you’re supposed to. If you’re entry level and want to travel, I highly recommend this job.

Cons

Pay isn’t all that great, the equipment is very specialized so it will be difficult to find a more complex maintenance job down the road. Heavy travel if that is an issue. FedEx jobs are horrible because of all the politics, requirements and how little you can actually do.
