Pros

- Significant training provided. - Housing provided for field engineers. - International exposure through training, work and colleagues. - Exciting environment at the rig.

Cons

- Atrocious work-life balance. Often months of work without a day off (weekends do not exist), and no proper field rotation policy. - Little application of engineering education in field position. - Possibly poor living conditions at well site and some staff accomodations. - Animosity between home country and international staff in low pay countries. - Often long periods of boredom, alternating with high stress.

Pros

Depending on the region, you can get ideal work schedules (2 weeks on, 2 weeks off). This free time to do whatever you want (travel, etc).

Cons

Family life/Social life can take a hit when you are working in the field. Can be moved transfered between regions at the blink of an eye.
