Pros

- Smart colleagues, from diverse backgrounds, from diverse countries - Excellent package, attractive mobile contract for those with full worldwide mobility - Career opportunities, lateral moves to discover other functions, geographical moves, transition to managemeht or other functions with guidance and trainings, technical career track with regular promotions - Technical company, managers come mostly from Engineering - High-tech, technical challenges

Cons

- Lots of politics, at some point everything turns out to be relational, high risk to be stuck or to be assigned the most boring tasks if not entering the game - Heavy processes, standardization, slow engine - In some teams, micromanagement, poor initiative opportunities, work pressure - Limited career prospects if no background/experience in geosciences, strong presence of former field engineers in management

Pros

Schlumberger is clearly a technological leader in its industry, and as a result the company has a strong brand image (which is recognized across industries). Furthermore due to the fact that Schlumberger operates in over 80 different countries there are plenty of opportunities for an international career.

Cons

It can be very difficult to promote quickly within the organization. While Schlumberger claim to have a culture of meritocracy, this is simply not the case and most promotions rely on internal politics. This is further complicated by the large amount of unqualified middle management, which tend to chase off talent.
