Pros

Good benefits. Engineers do ok

Cons

Cut pay and bonuses more than 20%. Worst management ever and no core values anymore. All about safety but not good at providing safety equipment. Stealing wages and hiding bonuses, have to fight to get paid on time. Forcing workers to quit by making horrible schedules. Newbies beware and the old school workers are the best because they know the oil field better than a young engineer does, yet treated horribly and they do all the work. Just stay away from this company.

Pros

Good pay for just getting out of college. Decent Benefits. For engineers there is a 3 year step program that has to be followed. FET, FE1, FE2, GFE. The training is very good. They prepare you for line management.

Cons

Engineers, plan on getting transferred within in your first couple of years. No time for family friends. It was pretty tough the first couple of years with a wife and kid. I would work 100+ hrs a week with no sleep. Oil and gas is 365-24/7. You will miss holidays and weddings. Very time consuming. But, in the end the quality of training trumped all of that.

Pros

While working at Schlumberger I was given the opportunity to participate in both safety based as well as job based training. Like so many former employees, I was not able to appreciate the value I had received until moving on to other companies and comparing the benefits of such a background.

Cons

The structure inherent in such a large company overwhelmed any hope for innovation that was not directed at achieving specific goals handed down from above.
