Pros

You get a lot of responsibility very early in your career. In-fact I was a lead engineer on a deepwater rig leading a job after just 5 months in the company without prior oil and gas experience.

Cons

It is pretty much a hire-fire company. No job security

Pros

Good induction into company and good training & development. Often working in environments with lots of other engineers, which is good for friendships. Can get transferred internationally very easily.

Cons

Almost every oil producing area in the world, and thus Schlumberger office, is in a place where people do not want to live. Uncertain hours (not a 9-5). Dirty job. Boom & bust industry (lots of SLB layoffs in 2015).
