great opportunities for training, good on the job experience, early opportunities to take responsibility, pretty good opportunities overall for career development

too much big company politics, easy to get stuck in a career plateau, salary becomes limited after several years on job

Pros

- Learn a lot and plenty of opportunities to fine-tune your investigative skills (teaching yourself new tasks) - Majority of managers are laid-back and knowledgeable - Work/Life balance great, except at month end/quarter end/year end - Most coworkers are laid-back and have enjoyable personalities - New ideas to create efficiency supported (you have to push your case in some circumstances) - Benefits are pretty good, although they have been better previous to the "recession"

Cons

- Compensation is 30% lower than market, with no bonus until you reach a certain "grade" or career level - Upper management (majority): - Inconsiderate of work/life balance of the people below them - Slow to complete simple tasks - Procrastination and greediness abundant - Many need to work on their people skills and attitudes towards the "little people" (you might have a better job/higher position, but you're not better than me) - "This is the way it's always been done" attitude in a lot of instances (rarely thinking out of the box) - No educational reimbursement benefits, although stated and confirmed in initial interview
