YOU REALLY DON'T WANT TO WORK HERE!!!!

Pros

Pay is slightly above average and when times are good, bonuses are good. But a bonus is considered part of your salary and the reason pay is not farther above average. Lot of training classes are available if you want to attend.

Cons

Working here is like being in a soap opera. Things are so bad, you cannot trust anyone. People here would stab you in the back to get ahead. The only way to progress here is if you are a buddy to you manager. Otherwise, forget it because you have NO chance. If you have a problem, you have nowhere to turn. Cannot trust your manager and we are all afraid to contact HR for any complaints because of the repercussions later on. You are not allowed to have an outside job other than working for SM. It's strictly forbidden. They pretty much own you 24/7. If you want to work with people you cannot trust, like being treated like a child and harassed, this is the place for you. Sick time accrued here is so bad, it takes 4 months to build enough time to take one sick day.

Great Company

Pros

Great culture, really excellent benefits, lots of friendly people, and gives back to the community. From the trenches, Tony Best was an excellent CEO of the company.

Cons

Groups can be very territorial in the accounting area. With the company's growth, there is a lot of political jostling amongst management.

Pros

The benefits package is good, the company reaches out to the community. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of pros for this company anymore.

Cons

Leadership skills are terrible. Micromanagement has gotten out of control. Workers are treated like brainless toddler, not hard working, self sufficient adults. Leads and Supervisors are vindictive and manipulative. Going to HR has no effect, as they just care to sweep things under the rug. You will be treated as an unequal peon if you don't constantly suck up to bosses, regardless of work produced or efficiency. You can ask for training, but they will dance around the thought, promise it to you, then never train you. If you are looking to advance your career, or even get it jump started, stay away from this company. They will consistently hold you down. You can't trust a single person in a position of power. You can always expect to get slammed behind your back. The benefits package is great, but not when the environment is life sucking and detrimental to health. This place is run like a terrible high school girl movie. The "in crowd" aka leads and those whose noses are shoved so far up their rear ends they can smell what the bosses smell, and "the others" aka everyone else. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.
