Pros

Pretty laid back working environment where you are not micromanaged. Not a ton of advancement opportunity, but some. The advanced level positions to move up are very competitive, but really all jobs here are. A LOT of perks such as great benefit packages, handsome employer contribution to 403b plan, tickets to sporting events, and many free campus events. Pretty decent professional development opportunities too.

Cons

The compensation is not great. It's definitely lower than the private market. It can be hard to get a foot in the door. Even entry level positions are very competitive. Many budget cut happening so morale has taken a bit of a hit. Some staff being asked to do more with less.

Pros

Great location, a culture of southern hospitality, small student body. Lots of opportunities to travel for research. Top-tier researchers in many disciplines.

Cons

Very highly affluent student body - lot's of old money here. Not necessarily a "con", but there can be a snooty attitude sometimes. As a geology student in a very small department, I had to seek out job recruiters - they did not come to our campus.

Pros

Free tuition; short hours (~35 hours/wk)

Cons

Boring, mindless work; high drama environment; lots of stress over insubstantial issues; managers don't use skills and talents of their employees, instead keep them doing remedial work day after day; employees are treated like children; low pay; managers lack any vision, only concerned with day-to-day fire drills; big brother feeling in office, you are always being watched and gossiped by peers, very punitive culture.
