Strong Company, Very Opaque, Little Professional Growth

Pros

I work on the corporate side. The culture is very laid back. From the top down, the management sees areas of growth and is working to be better, find talent, and grow...it just doesn't know how and is floundering about with little structure (the corporate hierarchy is wack with Chiefs/VPs/Directors). Because remember this company is just finding its footing after breaking away from Swinerton.

Cons

- The company refuses to talk about climate change. They will not say the words even though it's a SOLAR ENERGY company. Sustainability is not a focus, which is demoralizing for younger employees. This is largely to appease workers in the field who are more conservative, but it sets the company behind peers and feels icky. - A lot of nepotism. People get positions because they're friends/family. Some employees are married to each other--but it's too large of a company for that to work well on a day-to-day basis when there are 4,000+ employees. - CEO is nothing special, he's just been there the longest. - The company is owned by a private equity firm, no longer employee owned/no stock options yet which makes the company's growth irrelevant to lower-level employees. -The headquarters is far away from everything. - There's a feeling that money from the company's multi-billion dollar portfolio is going 99% to the C-suite and 1% to the people in the field, low-level drones etc. At such a large company why not find more innovative forms of compensation? -It's challenging to understand what the company's goals are; what are we supposed to be achieving? Monthly company calls highlight wins and are very feel good. However, not having outlined the company's priorities (or at least not sharing that) makes everyone less effective and their job harder.
