Pros

It's totally laid back. Nobody's standing over your shoulder, or breathing down your neck. There are some pretty smart people. I have a great manager who seems to take care of us, and definitely knows what he's doing. That's probably my best reason.

Cons

Our (3rd) floor is totally overcrowded, and as such, we have no privacy whatsoever. Because of its overutilization, the mens room smells like shite all the time, so you have to breathe through your mouth. I'm not crazy about the location. And unless you drive, you HAVE to leave before it starts getting dark. I've never had to think about that before.

Pros

Family culture, it's a fairly relaxed working environment, the company has a very inspiring and motivating CEO. And the company allows you to bring your dogs to work. Co-workers are highly talented and intelligent people. Working relationships among peers are generally good. The company carries and open-minded attitude of San Francisco. Decent benefit package.

Cons

Salary is on the lower end of the spectrum. Opportunities for job advancement is limited. The path for an engineer to advance to the top or to jump into management role depends more on your relationship of the top management, rather than your ability and job performance.

Advent is a well run, innovative organization, that prides itself in creating a good company culture. There is a great deal of internal promotion if you are self motivated and willing to grow within the company culture, through peer and internal training and education. The organization allows for team support, spirit and rewards group innovation and motivation. It is a small enough company, wherein you truly might get to know most, if not all of your peers, unlike many software organizations. In others words you are not just a number. If you are self motivated and looking for an outlet to display your brillance, Advent may be the right organization for you!

Cons

1,000 person or so size with limited product. Primarily providing portfolio management and accounting, straight through processing and trade order management software, services and data.
