Pros

Good benefits, paid vacation, if your above a courtesy clerk

Cons

Never enough staff, they want you to do the work of 5 people, the pay is horrible for amount of work, you have to be in old contract to make money, NO WORK LIFE BALANCE, if you don't dedicate your whole life to them working mornings nights mid shift all in one week your useless to them, I have personally seen employees work so hard and be treated so bad its horrible, management is so toxic and belittling, and think it's ok to sit in office and never come out (unless its time to eat)when the store desperately needs help because they run 9% labor (almost slave labor) and can't even bring pallets of merchandise out of the back room when rats are chewing holes and peeing on all the product. New management think they are superior and forgot not everyone has the same story and everyone learns different. They pay the lowest salary and expect you to sell your soul to them THIS COMPANY SHOULD WAKE UP AND SEE HOW PEOPLE ARE TREATED FOR 16 AN HOUR YOU GUYS MADE 10 BILLION PROFFITS ANUALLY. THERE ARE NOT MANY HAPPY PEOPLE IN YOUR STORES ANYMORE!! It's horrible and a pack of hamburger shouldn't cost 30 dollars

Pros

Schedules are extremely flexible. The company pays close to the top of the hourly range of other employers. I know this because I've applied elsewhere and end up determining that Safeway is, all things considered, a very good employer. Benefits are paid at 30 hours/week.

Cons

If you needed to work full-time (30-40 hrs) either for the money or for the benefits, it can be challenging to get/maintain hours in the grocery industry. I know some pharmacy assistants and technicians who pick up shifts at other stores. Each pharmacy manager has a target amount of hours of staff time. If you need to work more, employees are often willing to give you shifts. There isn't, as far as I can tell, opportunities for career advancement for pharmacy technicians.
