Pros

- the people you work with - flexible-ish schedule (I use ish heavily, as I was told what days would be best for me to take off normally)

Cons

- management will say one thing and do another - management doesn't care - management will tell you where you're working and what department and then randomly ask you to cover somewhere else - if you have a death in the family, and you've talked with management about wanting to take time off or utilize an LOA in advance, they say yes but then tell you "I can't let you do that, you're a manager" (if you're a manager) - speaking of LOA, if you ask for an LOA and give legitimate reasons, management will deny you and will only grant you an LOA when you either threaten to quit or turn in your two-week notice to try and get you to stay in their employ and guise it under "it saves your job and position" - management won't make sure departments are staffed and claim that the department is well staffed when they don't work that department and have no clue outside of "well you spent X on labor, and hardly any work was done." - there will be discrepancies on the EBITDA, the one I encountered was an odd amount for employee benefits paid out, and I was told they'd look into it and nothing was done about it - certain departments are bound by a scheduling system that requires auto-scheduling the department, primarily front end (checkers and courtesy clerks/baggers) and Starbucks--it DOESN'T work and will almost always short-staff the department for the day because it doesn't plan on busier days and only utilizes the previous years day as its source of information - and by short-staffing the departments with the auto-scheduler, it short-staffs departments not auto-scheduled because management will pull from other departments to assist in the short-staffed departments spreading the short-staffed ailing to the entire store - if you try to take a vacation and it doesn't work for the store manager, you may or will be asked to change or move your vacation request because it's inconvenient for them - the only time the store is staffed efficiently and correctly is when higher ups are coming to do a store walk
