Pros

If you are a hard worker. You will be called in to solve problems constantly. Meaning great overtime, so long as you prove you are worth the money. If you are young and fit. I would spend a couple years here only. Its advantagous to people who like to be physical. The pay is definately above the average retailer. I was quickly moved up in pay grade when I demonstrated my competence. Part of this is putting yourself in the spotlight. Management will recognize your work. Solve issues for management and they will treat you with respect. Insurance is fantastic compared to other companies.

Cons

People are not good at communication. You will be overworked if you are competent. You must establish boundaries and not be known as the guy who solves everything. The moment you set a high standard, people will call that you "normal" and they will be dissapointed in you for doing any less. The physical workloads are really inconsistant. The ordering system does not stay consistant, as it is done by AI. You must deal with the AI sending you too much, or too little freight. The stores are not built to handle this kind of fluctuation, meaning the only way to survive is to get everything you can done, and prepare for the next wave of disasters by getting ahead. You have to make room in the back for the next truck. The way this job falls apart is when there is left over freight from the previous day, and the back room gets clogged up, slowing the entire process to a grinding half. You are always up against this pressure. People get away with doing too little too often. Your help is usually one guy. If they do not have a good work ethic, the weight is put on you shoulders to solve the problem. This job can get very physically demanding. The goal is to flatten the curve of demand. Sometimes this doesn't happen. Again. You must have the back room cleared out, and stocked. or else the freight cannot move fluently through the building. Hours can get very tight. They are not afraid to cut labor and overwork their employees. The way they screw you, is to threaten to cut more hours if your store does not make target sales. Meaning you pay is constantly on the line if you cant get the freight to the shelf in time.

Pros

Safeway can be a very good starter job, however the longer you stay the more points of failure begin to arise within management and the company.

Cons

Poor Management is on the rise and bullying and manipulation tactics are common.
