Pros

NOT MANY!! Been with the company over 30yrs. Union job, good pay for old timers. Use to be one of the best jobs around. I LOVE MY JOB! I dislike this company and how they treat us.

Cons

So much pressure put on employees. The stores look like crap. Management knows and gets the same pressure. Vons used to be such a great store until Safeway took it over. They have no clue how to run grocery stores, or treat their employees. The old timers that really care, get so depressed that they can't do their job the way it should be done. Never enough time. If we get a new employee that is good; they never stay because of the $8.00 hr. pay. Everybody is part-time and it would take them 5yrs. to make full pay. But they would still be part time. It only took me 25 yrs. to make full-time. That was by the grace of god; not because they gave it to me willingly. It's a revolving door of new employees. Young ones, old ones, not many that know what there doing or really care. Just looking for a paycheck. That puts all the pressure on the old timers to pick up the slack!

Pros

Only pros to working at Safeway was that it was the only company that would hire me when I was younger than 18.

Cons

I worked at Safeway for 13 months as a Courtesy Clerk and it wasn't a great experience. Aside from very low pay, Safeway does not provide enough help for the Courtesy Clerks to get their jobs done effectively without hurting themselves or getting WAY behind. As a 95lb girl, I had to push 7 carts in 100 degree weather, several trips in a row just to keep up with things. Aside from that, two cashiers who had been working there for 17 and 23 years were each fired (at different times) for accidently messing up three WIC transactions in 365 days. Seriously, that's not hard to do. After 17 years of loyalty to the company, that's a very poor way to reward them.
