Pros

Nice Corp HQ in the Tri-Valley Area (Pleasanton, Dublin, Livermore)

Cons

Fake Corporate Social Responsibilities - Each employees are "required to volunteer" (oxy-moronism) for a social cause and clock in those "voluntary hours" in a common CSR bank. If you don't "sign-up/get involved" you are ousted by your dept and/or manager. I am all for helping and giving my time and money for social causes; but that is for my private & personal satisfaction. Not for Safeway to take on my voluntary hours in order to claim and take credit as "Safeway's employee voluntary program". Prior to my employment at Safeway, I've been a major financial contributor and volunteered many of my time for many known social causes. Now Safeway wants to claim my efforts and call it their own. Backstage is operated akin to Nazi Germany (Totalitarianism) - Iron fist loyalty to Safeway (if you shop your groceries anywhere else( i.e, Target, Raley's, Wal-Mart, etc) and you bring in a competitors brand into the building you'll be asked to dispose of it or remove it from the property; then get lectured or reprimanded by management. politics (fake bond/friendship with upper management, bum-kissing to save ones job or squeeze someone out of theirs), Cronyism / Nepotism, scare tactics (i.e. putting you on Performance Improvement Plan) if you don't comply to upper management's narcissistic thinking, fit in or play their political game, undermine other departments( to deem them incompetent) and then go in to conquer their projects...i could go on and on! Bad Quality of Produce/Product at the store. Constant rotting/old organic (and exotic) fruits & vegetables (sfwy_organic.jpg). Expired (or very near to expiration) dairy products, breads, sauces/gravy envelopes. Safeway (Backstage) is all it in for themselves and not truly for the customers. Safeway relies on their own employees to be the customers...or else.

Pros

Working at Safeway provided regular working hours and extra cash. My boss was fairly flexible with scheduling. The light and ambiance in not unpleasant. Coworkers were friendly enough. Music wasn't horrible, though a bit repetitive. Learned how to use a cash register. Very good thorough training program, though not all the skills learned were implemented by management in practice.

Cons

Long hours on your feet, with minimal breaks. Not really treated like an individual, just another drone to do your job. Lifting heavy items is tiring. All of the movement and physical labor is in one direction, which puts an uneven strain on your back. Lots of the bagging equipment was at an inconvenient height. Training suggested certain standards in customer service that were not effectively taught and implemented in practice. Very repetitive, not intellectually stimulating. Ideas for improvement were not encouraged. I believe there were unfair wages discrepancies based upon gender.

Pros

not too many. the cons really outweigh any possible pros and make the environment horrible anyway.

Cons

disrespectful, treat employees like dirt, bad pay with little raises. I had to fight to get a raise and they made me lose all my raises when I went inactive since they weren't accommodating my college schedule
