Pros

In the past, it was one of the best places to be employed. Not so anymore. It's a paycheck. There are medical and dental benefits, though they have become rather costly to the individual. A retirement plan that paid 7% per year but was cut to 3% could be seen as a benefit. Sick leave and vacation can be earned but nearly impossible to get approved.

Cons

Outright abuse. Right to work state does not mean right to abuse your employees. Never the less, Safeway does. You will not find many pharmacy personel who, in all honesty, could say much good about this company, upper management, and the work place environment. You will be terminated if you do speak negatively about the company and are identified. They promise customer service but cut the resources needed to provide such service. Quality and quantity of staff and systems lacking. Promises and incentives used as bargaining tools, but neglect to present the "real" picture. After the fact is your problem to deal with. Upper management dies not help at any time. This year alone has seen a mass exodus of long time pharmacists and technicians...if that doesn't tell the story.

Pros

-Some of the customers -Broad choice of foods for break -Freedom to roam about -Some of the coworkers -They recycle plastic bags

Cons

-Some of the customers were rude and arrogant -Managers were quick to choose favorites (I.e. one guy who comes in "buzzed" everyday) -Managers were annoying and picky--too many chiefs -No one knew what their benefits were because the union guy didn't even know -The employee trainer is an imbecile. She never calls you back to schedule an interview and then when you're hired, she quickly rushes you through the paperwork so you have no idea what you're signing, etc. -Courtesy clerks are treated horribly by coworkers and customers -Bad work/life ratio -Hours were always getting cut -Store manager is greedy and unsympathetic (i.e. had a bomb threat and while other shops evacuated, he made us stay open) -Only favorites get promoted unfortunately as it should be based on experience and seniority like it's supposed to be. -Open every freakin' day of the year and close early on 1 or 2 holidays! Ugh!
