Pros

Decent benefits but it depends on how you look at it. You can work with great people which can make the job fun, but again it depends on the store. And if you know the customers personally some of them are amazing and you look forward to hopefully helping them out again. You can start to build a repertoire with customers as well.

Cons

Management has really gone down hill at Safeway, seniority means nothing to them as it did before. Favoritism plays a major role in what jobs you and the amount of hours you work. The benefits they now offer are horrible! I cant even find a doctor that will take my insurance. And the Union cant help you with much when you ask them to. I've had managers that some employees were praying to be kicked out and people were transferring or trying to because the management was so poor

Pros

*Training can be applied to future jobs *Benefits and health care package very good *Management respected employees *Fellow employees fantastic

Cons

*Too many duties placed on courtesy clerks (It even upset cashiers to see my list of daily duties for opening/closing courtesy!) *Some snooty customers (but that was due to the area of downtown the store is located in *Lack of hours

Pros

The job pays pretty well. I work with intelligent people.

Cons

Incredible micro-management. This week, you must drop everything and work on ProjectA. Next week, you must drop everything and work on ProjectB. Every 2 years there is a reorg, although it has a different name every year (transformation, etc.) and we lose more worker-bees than bosses. Everyone is afraid of speaking their mind unless they agree with whatever is spewing forth from the VPs mouth because those people are the ones that are "dismissed" during the next reorg. The management people that make the decisions seem to be very few in number and each time there is a reorg, nothing changes at their level. The few technical people that are still left seem to just "do what they are told" and seem to be waiting for the recession to ease.
