Pros

I've heard that Safeway's benefits are pretty good compared to others; the retirement pension plan is a good thing. Technician support is better than other companies. No drive-through pharmacies. Not open 24 hours (yet). Rx Technical Support in Phoenix is pretty good, usually competent and efficient.

Cons

Must deal with non-pharmacy/retail issues and departments. Secret shopper/service scores, inventory and now IMMUNIZATIONS are part of yearly bonus and, therefore, expected. Now open holidays and it doesn't matter whether or not you worked that day, you get paid the same. Nearly impossible to get time off since head office never has anyone to cover. Yeah, you get two personal days but you need to find coverage on your own! Work uniform of white shirt and black pants. No employer match to 401(k). No employee discounts. PDX computer system in each store is not linked. With any grievance management will ALWAYS side with the customer and give a gift card so don't expect management to have your back. Never trust management; always get it in writing!

Pros

Work enviornment and colleagues are good. At Safeway colleagues all know eachother well and even spend time outside of work together (specific for pharmacy crew members). Store manager interference with pharmacy opperations is next to nothing. I would have to say, upper pharmacay management aside, that the work environment is awesome. Safeway does treat it's employees very good when it comes to time off when needed and picking up overtime.

Cons

The biggest downside of working for Safeway is that you never get a straight answer from upper pharmacy management. You seem to get one thing from a manager and the next day a colleague says that they got something completely different from the same manager. There seems to be closed door deals with management that are frequently reneged on. When it comes to moving from one place to anther look out for empty promisses. If you can find a spot where you can just go to work and never deal with upper management (good luck) you should take it and you'll be happy.

Pros

you get to sarcastically smile at people

Cons

24/7 operation...too many bean counters....you must answer to people who never have worked in a retail store.
