Pros

- For IT jobs, the salaries are relatively competitive. - I was able to work on some market leading technology for customer loyalty applications - Generally nice people to work with (on the IT side) -- I didn't have a lot of contact with other areas

Cons

- The health benefits were horribly cheap. High deductibles (up to $1500 per person per year with no family deductible) and after you paid that, the plans still pay only about 80%. My out of pocket medical expenses ran over $10,000 my first year there. - Ancient business applications and they seem to have at least one copy of everything, and with no cohesive plan to get out from under the crush of all the legacy software. - The trend seems to be to move everything to Phoenix (I was offered a job in Phoenix at a 10% reduction in salary, so I chose to be laid off and stay in the Bay Area). - In general, the only training I could get was if it was free.

Pros

Overall great company to work for, if u plan in staying with them long haul.

Cons

How can anyone stay with a company long haul if they are starting off at 9. An hour must work 1500 hours to get a .25 cent raise.that takes one year to get a quarter. Whn u start u are only hired with 24 hours a week then u gradually get more hours.plus then u have high union dues back intiation fees due and monthly union fees due. So after fourty hours with taxes coming out your around 200 mayb plus a week..how can anyone survive off 800 a month in the bay area..

Pros

All benefits of working at Safeway have been stripped away, replaced with a upbeat “this is the industry standard” standard statement, and a bunch of upper level managers that seem greedy, scared for their positions, and at times down right evil.

Cons

Many of the valuable upper level managers left months ago, leaving behind the poor performing executives to take advantage of job openings. Now the new aquisistion team gets stuck with the worst of the Safeway executives.
