Pros

I had the fortunate opportunity to work alongside the Market Research manager within the Communications department as a temporary employee. The manager was not only competent and diligent but also consistently respectful and displayed trust towards his employees. It was evident that he possessed extensive experience in market research, business, and management, as evidenced by his balance of professional communication and market research/analytical skills.

Cons

Having been a person who worked for two departments at SamTrans, I agree with others here that an employee's experience can differ depending on the management. Management+work/team culture at SamTrans is really hit or miss. I believe that it's essential for prospective employees to consider the management and team culture during interviews within their specific department before joining SamTrans. It might also be helpful to know how many years of experience your prospective supervisor has in supervising before taking a job.

Pros

Very old building. Upper management is not adequately vetting midlevel managers.

Cons

I've been working in mostly industry but also government and academics for over 25 years. Samtrans Central Office, within the Fare Products and Analysis department is among the worst work environment I have ever come across. There are some really nice people, a manager and a director who befriended me while I was there but unfortunately, I ended up being hired by a manager who had technical and temperamental deficiencies that made my work at Samtrans particularly difficult. It seems that Samtrans uses probationary periods for employees to get complicated work completed within teams but treats it like you are a contractor here for a limited time. My advice to people considering a career at Samtrans is to thoroughly research the hiring manager and make sure the working relationship is a good fit.

they lack staff so you'll work at least two roles while they pay you for one

Pros

you get a paycheck for working two jobs

Cons

you get a paycheck for one job while working two jobs -they would rather hire another person than pay you for your job -top staff have alot of pressure/anger and direct it at employees beneath them (yelling at staff is common/communication) -no training or structure, just fumble around and get the job done -top staff don't respect your work hours because they are salaried/you work over time, then get pressured from your supervisor not to charge overtime
