Bad Managers

Pros

Good food, work is interesting

Cons

Some managers especially on the Growth, Product/ Marketing side have bloated egos and treat others like they don't matter. Some first time managers/directors have no people experience and are extremely arrogant & insecure. They also got promoted randomly. Execs promote folks who came with them from Meraki or people who joined the company very early. When you ask for promotion, they give you very random feedback and often tell you - you can go work somewhere else. Extremely frustrating and demotivating for people who really care and want to develop their career. There is also extreme lack of transparency and a lot of favoritism can be seen.

Pros

free lunch......just trying to hit the five word minimum here.

Cons

What can I say about Samsara that hasn't already been said? Let's see they used Covid as an excuse to layoff 300 people last year saying they were cutting expenses to better support their customers while the same day announcing a $400M funding round. If that doesn't make sense to you it's also a head scratcher that in an effort to "save money" they booked Trevor Noah for SKO which has an estimated price tag of $250K+. They pander to being "diverse" and "welcoming to all" however just so it's clear from their own website only 5.18% of the workforce is Black and that number shrinks down to 2.19% in tech roles, and 1.2% in leadership roles. Also the majority of POC they highlight on their diversity page were fired at least 2 years ago. It's an oldboys club of people from Meraki geared at making the very top a lot of money and screwing over everyone underneath no matter what they tell you about this "rocketship" in your Linkedin DM's.

Pros

*Pre-IPO *Great Benefits *MOSTLY sales managers *Cool office location

Cons

Samsara had so much promise when they opened the new Atlanta office. Everyone in my network was so proud of me for joining and being part of a "rocket ship". I understand that no company is perfect and am very grateful for my time there/what I learned. That being said, people use Glassdoor to find the truth. Here is the deal: *There are too many reviews about the layoffs and same day funding. No need to go deeper here. *We would literally host happy hours and do debriefs on "the culture fit" of candidates. It was basically a forum for people to get made fun of and laughed at. There were some things that were said that I will never forget. If you are on the board or in upper leadership, you should absolutely be concerned about your Director level leadership. *I had people in my networks getting "spammed" by Recruiters. Our brand went from a prestigious Bay Area start up to a multi level marketing company. It comes across as desperate and sloppy. Whoever is leading that charge should be questioned. *I was told the "average W2" was over $180K and the average team was hitting +200% against quota. This is simply not true. *Candidate were literally walked out of interviews if the managers did not like them. They were told "an emergency had come up." This happened to a former colleague of mine and she saw what was happening. Very shameful.
