Pros

Once in a while you may be fortunate enough to be one of the first to enter the company book store for reasonably priced books/items

Cons

- Employee inequality between "casual" employees and "full-time" employees ... good luck EVER getting benefits or a decent raise if you are hired as casual - ALL "Newmarket" employees that joined Markham head office were deemed "full time" while those at Markham with more seniority remain at casual for no rhyme or reason - There use to be a "gym" with 3 pieces of equipment until Management decided they didn't want to maintain them ... good new is there is a room with carpet so you can complete your yoga - There is no advancement based on merit ... those that work hard get treated the same or worse than those that do the very minimum - Management talks a lot about employees being important, safety is priority, thanks for working hard during tough times BUT they don't put there $ where there mouth is .... start showing employees they are important, start acting on safety notifications .... too much blah blah blah! - Management says "door is always open" however they electronically control door access and most warehouse employees don't have easy access - just seems ironic! - Company seems behind, focusing on hard copy books and little indication that electronic books is focus for the future ... Is Management forward thinking???

Truly disappointing.

Pros

Scholastic is a great name in the US in terms of children's book publishing, but truly disappointing in Singapore.

Cons

Management is desperate to get sales even without getting their product right. Although it is a MNC in name , it operates more like a SME(small medium enterprise) with no international outlook. Besides being stingy with its own employees, it is also unethical to its customers. Too many resignations every month yet management do not bother as long as they themselves stay on. No wonder schools are also shunning them.

Dead end job.

Pros

Bringing books to kids (but at a cost). Rarely work a weekend. Benefits. No attendance policy.

Cons

Very physical work, bending, lifting, standing on cement all day for little pay. Upper management doesn't have a real clue and doesn't care. You work to earn vacation only to be told when you can and can not take it. Favoritism is out of control. Management is more concerned with petty who's talking about who than the fairs going out the door. Raises, given once a year, are based on personality, not job performance, or attendance. Someone out of the state who has no clue is making all the decisions. Would rather work a few people to death than hire more full time help. On site managers have their favorites that tend to be lazy, and if you're not one of them there is a target on your back.
