Pros
You could do a lot worse that working for Scholastic, but it feels like it should be more successful. Work/life balance - most work happens during the school term, so the pace is much more relaxed during school holidays, company car was good, Book Club is a great product, schools are generally good to deal with, most staff are fantastic! Great phone support team. It's possible to last a while if you want to. Certainly not a bad role but won't suit everyone, especially if you're a sales guru who really wants to push hard for reward. My manager was great - understanding, approachable, generally helpful when needed, mostly realistic about the market but ultimately still expected a lot which is not a bad thing.
Cons
Fairly low pay (not terrible, but you certainly won't get rich), bookshops are struggling, product getting increasingly difficult to sell due to a slew of dreadfully outdated education resources - KeyLinks and Connectors are great but NEED to be either pensioned off or refreshed, PR1ME schools largely ignored unless you are in WA. Systems are clunky, upper management seem out of touch, heavy reliance on licensed books that are just discount fodder and pollute the Scholastic brand, company slowly seems to be losing its soul.
