Pros
There were a few wonderful coworkers who were there for many years. They looked out for everyone's well-being. Warehouse supervisors were generally kind and professional. This is a generally safe environment, even with the fork lifts and assembly line, and management was always quick to see to rare injuries. It was mandatory to view safety videos every month to ensure safety and employees needed to sign off to say that they saw them. This seasonal position coincided with school sessions so employees had summers off and would return again in the fall. Warehouse employees received a great discount on books and had the ability to purchase materials in the evenings. The break room had two bookcases so employees were essentially able to check out books for themselves and family. This job was not minimum wage; employees received $9 an hour.
Cons
Forty hours was considered "part time" and lacked benefits due to this label. Management would be upset if you needed to work less than this (you know, "part time" hours) and was not very flexible. This is incredibly difficult when the part-time employee has children. Many employees left during the season because they did not receive the hours that they signed up for. The few individuals who did manage to work only a few hours a week made it so everyone else was expected to work 40 hours. The bullying here was atrocious. Yes, there were a few wonderful coworkers (as stated), but many were quick to offer derogatory comments. Some bullying tactics mimicked that of high schoolers (i.e. ignoring one individual, gossiping, talking negatively and loudly about one person in said person's presence). It was disheartening to work some days. Working on the assembly line was a very stressful experience for those situated at the beginning and the end because there would be backups in these locations. There either needed to be more workers in this area or better planning on returns.
