Pros

flexible, willing to accommodate your schedule, fun

Cons

very unorganized, lacks structure, lots of ambiguity. im only working part time but i feel like my workload has the same rigor as a full time employee. last minute situations happen a lot. work life balance is almost nonexistent so you must communicate your boundaries. along that, hours can be a little too flexible. also management has unclear expectations.

Pros

The training opportunities for professionals are excellent. Job advancement/promotions are possible if you stick it out and make good efforts. Work life balance is good, a lot of freedom to set and plan your own schedule. Frequent evening and weekend work (2-5x monthly). The feeling that you are making a difference. The many volunteers who contribute of their time, talent and treasure to the program are wonderful - just watch out for the ones who will drag you down.

Cons

The technology is incredibly out-of-date and often can hinder your ability to actually do your job. As a DE you are a salesperson for Scouting. Being a sales job, a lot of results will be out of your control, despite your best efforts. Schools are often not willing to partner on recruitment and this makes meeting membership goals very difficult. There are so many distractions that you will face that can make it difficult to focus on the bottom line, which is growing Scouting through money, membership and manpower (volunteerism).
