Pros

This job offers amazing experience. Working one-on-one with a provider builds your medical knowledge and helps prepare you for whichever route you want to go on, whether you are pre-nursing, pre-med, etc. Where I scribe, there is great flexibility for scheduling, allowing you to work while in school which is much appreciated.

Cons

The biggest downside is the pay -- the pay is close to minimum wage with very little opportunity to move up/get raises. The only raise possible is if you promote to chief scribe. I only make a dollar more an hour when I am training. Other than that, I love who I work with and love the opportunity. I recognize this is a job focused on experience rather than pay.

Thanks for leaving us this review! We are very happy to see you are getting so much experience seeing unique and interesting cases. This is why being a medical scribe is such a great experience as you really do get to see firsthand how medicine functions, which is something you really can’t get from other jobs or volunteer work. We truly value that this is a great opportunity for those looking to further education by going to Medical School/PA School/etc. Depending on the area you work in, we always recommend working with your direct supervisor to determine if you are able to be cross-trained in a different specialty of medicine, or at another facility, so that you are always seeing unique cases and continuing to grow in your role. We work very hard to maintain our place as the industry leader and strive to always be competitive in every market. I hope you are also taking advantage of some of ScribeAmerica’s other amazing benefits including employee discounts on things like computers, Kaplan prep courses, and even on Lyft.
