Poor Training

Pros

1. Good Clinical Exposure: being able to see the physician - patient interaction is invaluable for anyone seeking this kind of an experience. 2. Knowledge - gaining the knowledge that you do as a Scribe is beneficial and humbling especially if you're interested in pursuing medical education further. 3. Making friends - many of the other scribes have similar backgrounds and it's nice to have the support system. The team of doctors, nurses etc. is welcoming to the scribes.

Cons

** The company does not have an effective training program: - trainers are often not qualified to train. Just because someone is good at a job does not necessarily qualify them to be able to teach that job. Teaching is a skill and "effective" teaching is honestly a gift. ** Warning for anyone interested in the job: - The job is great but the training program is significantly flawed. So be adamant to learn in whatever way works for you. Be confident in your capabilities and just be cognizant about feedback from trainers that is baseless. Contradictory to what some might tell you, the job is not rocket science! It is very straightforward and gets easier the longer you do it. Also be aware that the company has the right to dismiss you at any point.

Pros

Great experience for building future careers or applying for grad schools. Not for a career.

Cons

They expect a lot of work and you max out at 10 dollars an hour with 12 hour shifts

Great for Medical Students

Pros

You get to work directly with a physician and learn all about medical terminology, electronic health records, and hospital procedures. It's a great way to gain experience

Cons

You do not get paid very much and you will sometimes work with physicians that do not actually want you to do their charts
