Great short-term job for experience

Pros

TL;DR- Great entry level medical experience for those going into the field. Steep learning curve. Scribing was fantastic for preparing me for medical school applications and interviews and definitely played a part in getting accepted. You learn a ton and get to work closely with providers.

Cons

TL;DR Poor pay, often poor management, high turnover rate, steep learning curve. Company has very high turnover rate as the majority of employees are only there to get experience to apply to PA/MD/DO school, and pay is $10 or minimum wage, whichever is higher. As all management gets minimal raises, and is all internal hires, this leads to high turnover rate of management and a staff of managers that are inexperienced. The job itself can be tough for extroverts, as you stand silently in the corner for the majority of the day.

Pros

Acquire a ton of knowledge about different specialties, healthcare system, and current health issues. The physicians I've worked with are interested in my career goals and are eager to show me different things regarding their specialities.

Cons

It can be difficult to get enough hours.

Pros

Great opportunity to receive clinical experience.

Cons

Pay was near nothing for the amount of stress that the work environment puts you though. Also, many hospitals are terminating their contracts with Scribe America now, because they are realizing how economically unsound contracting through a company like this can be. I worked at two different hospitals as a scribe under scribe america and at both of them, the scribe programs got terminated. Management did a poor job at communicating this and at each hospital it took me over 3 months to begin working, with little communication regarding what was happening. After the second time this happened, I chose to leave the company rather than sit around and wait for this to happen again.
