Pros

You get to working really closely with doctors and learn a lot of medical terminology. Easy interview.

Cons

-I waited a year after my application was sent before anyone got back to me about the interview. -The training and hiring process was unorganized and ridiculously long. I was hired in September and I did not finish training until February. I had to wait a long time for people to get back to me about my status and I was never sure when I was going to move on to my next step. Also, they don't tell you when they "hire" you that you're not officially hired until you finish your bedside training so they can reserve the right to fire you whenever they feel like your work isn't on par with their expectation, which is fine if they train you properly and prepare you to reach their expectations, but they don't. I was sent to bedside training before I finished my previous in class trainings, therefore I felt really unprepared and inadequate when I was on the floor. Additionally, the pay is really low for the amount of work that you do and the hours you have to commit. You could potentially do a 12 hour shift and not take any breaks.

Working for ScribeAmerica

Pros

You gain a vast amount of knowledge on the specialty you scribe for. You also get an idea of the workflow of the physician. ScribeAmerica also gives you the opportunity for promotions. You aren't stuck being a scribe. You can be promoted to chief scribe and higher. Our CEO started as a scribe!

Cons

You don't get paid enough. This job can be stressful, especially if the physician you scribe for is very busy. The training powerpoints are also generic and not site-specific, so you have to make your own training material to train the new scribes. Being chief scribe is almost a full time job, so it is difficult to balance that with school.
